There is little doubt that the breast is a significantly defining feature of the female form. Throughout history, in both ancient and modern art, and in the contemporary media, the female breast is portrayed as a sensual component of femininity. The size and shape of the breasts influence how women feel about their figures, and are an important component of self-esteem.
Several factors such as familial ‘genetics’, aging, weight fluctuation and pregnancy affect the overall shape and volume of the breast. For each breast shape, their are procedures designed to enhance the appearance of the breast. Procedures exist to reduce the size and weight of large breasts, to augment smaller breasts, and to lift sagging breast. There are also reconstructive procedures to restore a breast mound and nipple when one has been lost or disfigured due to cancer surgery.
Plastic surgery of the breast is one of the most frequent procedures that Dr. Sattler performs in his practice. Nationally, these procedures are done with great frequency. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) in 2007 breast 347,524 women had a breast augmentation, a 64% increase compared to the year 2000. Also in 2007, a cosmetic breast lift (mastopexy) was done for 104,176 women, a 97% increase from the year 2000. It has been well documented in scientific studies that the rate of patient satisfaction is high and body image and self confidence are improved by surgical breast enhancement procedures.
The first step toward achieving your breast aesthetic ideal is to schedule a consult with Dr. Sattler. During the consultation, you’ll have the opportunity to review your ideas for improvement of breast size, volume and shape. Dr. Sattler and his RN assistant with examine you and make measurements of your breast anatomy. The goal is to plan a safe and successful operation for you. This surgical plan takes into account your individual breast anatomy with Dr. Sattler’s experience with what is safe and produces good results for patients. Its important to bring in photographs of women from the internet or magazines that match your height and torso proportions, and that have the breast ‘look’ that you are interested in.
Photographs of you will also be taken, which will be reviewed with you during the consultation. These photographs are important to document any breast asymmetry you might have, and are used to plan your operation. Of course, all photographs are part of your private medical record and are never shared with other patients or published anywhere, unless you give written permission for us to do so.
Dr. Sattler has extensive ‘before and after’ photo albums of breast surgery patients in clinic. He will review these photo albums with you as part of your consultation. These photographs are not available for review on-line at this time.
