Breast Augmentation: The Third Option : Lipo Augmentation

Friday, February 12, 2010

Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Tacoma

Breast augmentation surgery is a relaible way to improve one’s appearance and self-confidence.  Women  often seek breast augmentation following childbirth, weight loss, or pregnancy. Historically, the solution was placement of a breast implant for improved breast volume and shape.

Breast implants come in two varieties, saline and silicone. Each has a silicone shell filled with either saline or silicone gel. These devices have been used safely for many years in hundreds of thousands of women.

There is a third option for breast augmentation: your own fat. Many women have looked at themselves in the mirror and wished that the fat ‘there’ (pointing to thighs, belly etc) could be placed ‘here’ (pointing to their breasts).  Recent advances in fat transfer techniques and new thinking about breast imaging has reawakened interest in fat transfer to the breasts. The technique goes by many names, including fat transfer breast augmentation, lipo augmentation and fat graft breast augmentation. The bottom line is that your own fat can be safely used to augment the breast.

Lipo augmentation can result in a very natural appearing, moderately sized breast augmentation composed of your own living tissues. No breast implant is required for Lipo Augmentation. The procedure combines liposuction of the thighs, abdomen and flanks with transfer of the fat into the breast tissues. The result can be at least one cup size of augmentation.  Pre-expansion of the breast tissues using the BRAVA external breast expander is helpful for this procedure.

Dr. Sattler is proud to offer Lipo Augmentation to patients in the Bellevue, Seattle, Everett and Tacoma areas.

Zeltiq non-invasive fat reduction now available at our clinic!

Friday, January 15, 2010

The Naficy Rejuvenation Center received the Zeltiq cryolipolysis device a couple of days ago. We’ve got it set up, and did our first consult and treatment today.

The cryolipolysis concept is simple: when fatty tissues are cooled to a critical temperature, selective death of fat cells is induced. The overlying skin and connective tissue remains perfused and viable. Several weeks later, there is a significant reduction in fat content within the treated area. No incisions are required. No anesthesia is required. The treatment takes about one hour. Most patients require two treatment cycles to contour the abdomen, love handle or back roll areas.

The non-invasive body contouring space is really going to explode in the next couple of years. There are some other emerging technologies, including highly focused ultrasound (HIFU) devices, which are also effective. There are issues with all of these devices. We’re excited about Zeltiq because of its demonstrated efficacy and zero down-time.

The great thing about the addition of Zeltiq to our clinic is that we are predominantly a SURGICAL practice. Which means that if you are not a good candidate for Zeltiq (too much fat, fatty regions other than belly/flanks/back) then we have a terrific alternative for you: liposuction, tummy tuck etc.

Call the clinic 425-450-0880 and schedule a consult with me. Visit www.seattleface.com and check out some before and after photos.

I passed the American Board of Plastic Surgery board exam!

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Good news! Great news actually- I’m a board certified plastic surgeon!  I found out on Friday Jan 8th that I passed the American Board of Plastic Surgery certification exam. I am now a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Since board certification in plastic surgery is required for Active membership status in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), I am in the process of applying to become an ASPS member surgeon. Since I’m already board-certified in General Surgery, I can now claim that I’m a double-board certified Plastic Surgeon.

In the United States, there are about twenty medical specialities that are recognized by the only medical board accrediting organization: The American Board of Medical Specialities (ABMS). Plastic surgery is one of those specialities. ‘Cosmetic Surgery’ is not.

Any surgeon that claims to be ‘board certified’ in ‘cosmetic surgery’ is NOT certified by a specialty board that is recognized by the ABMS.

In our community, ASPS member surgeons are certified to do any type of plastic surgery they wish to do- this includes all types of cosmetic surgery and skin care, reconstructive surgery, hand surgery etc. The foundations for cosmetic surgical procedures are rooted in reconstructive surgery. Many so-called ‘cosmetic surgeons’ have received little to no training in reconstructive surgery. These surgeons are not prepared to deal with many complex cosmetic surgical procedures (and their complications)- so they stick with liposuction and breast augmentation procedures which are relatively safe.

When you sit down with a surgeon to discuss a procedure- ask the individual the following questions:

1. Are you board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery? If not, WHY NOT?

2. Do you have hospital privileges to do the procedure we are discussing, if I chose to have it done at the hospital? If not, WHY NOT?

3. Do you perform reconstructive plastic surgery? If not, WHY NOT?

Breast Augmentation in Seattle and Bellevue WA

Monday, January 04, 2010

According to American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) survey data from 2008, breast augmentation has surpassed liposuction as the most commonly performed plastic surgery operation by ASPS member surgeons. In 2008 breast augmentation surgery was performed for 307280 patients by ASPS member surgeons. This represents a 45% increase in the annual number of breast augmentations compared to the year 2000.

Its easy to see why breast augmentation surgery has become so popular. Patient satisfaction with the procedure is very high. In a recent patient survey, over 90% of breast augmentation patients reported that they would elect to have the procedure again, based on their experience with breast augmentation surgery.

If you are considering a breast augmentation procedure, the winter months are an excellent time to have the procedure done. You’ll be fully recovered and all set for the summer months!
