Plastic Surgeons are 'Supersized' Cosmetic Surgeons

Plastic Surgeons are 'Supersized' Cosmetic Surgeons

I was talking with a Seattle plastic surgery colleague about the ambulatory surgery center that he uses for some of his procedures. It is a locally owned facility with a good reputation. I was surprised to learn that there is a so called ‘cosmetic surgeon’ on staff at this ASC doing breast augmentation, liposuction and other surgical procedures.

As far as I can tell, this particular ASC is the only place where this cosmetic surgeon can perform these procedures, besides in privately owned facilities. The other hospitals and ASCs out there in Seattle just don’t allow these types of surgeons to work.

So what’s the difference between a cosmetic surgeon and a real plastic surgeon ?

Training. Experience. Credentials.

Plastic Surgeons are members of the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Cosmetic Surgeons are not. Plastic Surgeons are board certified in Plastic Surgery. Cosmetic Surgeons are not.

Plastic surgeons are permitted to operate on any portion of the body – from head to toe. A plastic surgeon with a solid reconstructive surgery background has seen a myriad of surgical situations involving the breast, the face, the nose – that were far more complex than a cosmetic breast, face or nasal procedure.

When you want a cosmetic procedure done correctly – it makes sense to seek out a surgeon that understands variations on a theme. A surgeon that has seen complex problems involving every conceivable bit of human anatomy.

Reconstructive surgery makes for great plastic surgeons. They have seen it all, done it all, and can apply these skills and decision-making to a simpler set of cosmetic surgical problems.

So called cosmetic surgeons just don’t have this set of skills, and never will. Ask yourself if you deserve a great cosmetic result, and then seek out a board certified plastic surgeon that can deliver that result for you.

What do you ask for when you want more than the ‘average’ – you ‘Supersize’ it !
