Background
I was raised in Clayton, California, a small town in Northern California. I attended college at the University of California, San Diego and studied Molecular Biology and Health Care Ethics. I won a President's Research Scholarship award to do research in growth factor protein chemistry while an undergraduate at UC San Diego. I also did research into the molecular biology of brain signaling pathways intrinsic to substance addiction at the Scripps Institute. Here in the Pacific Northwest, I am involved in outdoor sports such as mountain biking, off-roading and sailing. I enjoy discussing the benefits of a multi-disciplinary exercise program and healthy diet with my patients.
Medical School
I attended George Washington University Medical School in Washington DC. I graduated with honors and was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha, an honorary medical society for students that have excelled academically. In May 1997 I moved to Seattle, WA to start my General Surgery training at the University of Washington.I completed my plastic surgery training at Oregon Health Sciences University, in Portland OR.
Surgical Training
I have completed a total of seven years of post-graduate surgical training. My General Surgical residency training was done at the University of Washington, here in Seattle. It is considered to be one of the best surgical training programs in the world. I was the chief surgical resident from 2001-2002 at the University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center, Providence Medical Center (now Swedish Cherry Hill) and the VA Hospital. After completing my General Surgery training, I practiced as a US Navy General Surgeon doing breast cancer surgery for four years before I began my fellowship training in Plastic Surgery. I completed the two year Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery training program at Oregon Health Sciences University. During this training period, I worked with world-class reconstructive and cosmetic surgeons doing all types of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. I also traveled around the West Coast working with some of the leaders in cosmetic surgery and learned the newest techniques from them.
Board Certifications
I am board certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). I am an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and am a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Surgeons that are certified by the ABPS have undergone the most rigorous and comprehensive training and certification process that exists for plastic surgeons performing cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Active Membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) indicates that a surgeon is board certified by the ABPS to do cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, breast, body and hands.
AWARDS and accolades
In 2015, I was named as a 'Top Doctor' for plastic and reconstructive surgery by Seattle Met Magazine. I have been the co-editor of the Cosmetic Surgery section of the Plastic Surgery Education Network, an on-line resource for plastic surgeons, sponsored by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. I've been a 'RealSelf 100' and 'RealSelf 500' and 'RealSelf Top Doc' award recipient during the past few years.
Philosophy of Care
To my patients, I offer my attention to detail, an artistic sense of aesthetics, concern for patient safety, and a private clinic environment. I see all patients with female medical staff members who are expert in the care of surgical patients. I try to put my patients at ease and get to know them as individuals. Its important to me that my patients understand how their surgery and recovery period will fit into their overall lifestyle and occupation.
At Sound Plastic Surgery in Seattle, our patients receive one-on-one, personalized care at every visit. I am always personally available to my patients with my personal cell phone 24/7 and 365 days a year.
